Got questions?

What is Keep and Switch?

For a limited time, customers who switch (bring your number) to T-Mobile from an eligible postpaid carrier (AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, Claro, Liberty (Puerto Rico), Xfinity or UScellular) can bring their eligible phone and we will reimburse you up to $800 per line on the remaining device payment balance (up to 5 voice lines) via virtual prepaid card (card usually takes 15 days). So you can keep your new 5G phone, keep your number AND get the 5G your phone deserves on America’s largest and fastest 5G network.

How do I get Keep and Switch?

To qualify for T-Mobile to reimburse your remaining device payment balance, up to $800, you must:

  • Have a device financing agreement on an eligible device with AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum Claro, Liberty (Puerto Rico), Xfinity or UScellular and have had the agreement for at least 90 days on that network.
  • Activate a new voice line on a qualified rate plan. All plans currently sold by T-Mobile are eligible with some exclusions. Talk to our customer support team to see which plan is best for you.
  • Before you bring (port) your number to T-Mobile, ensure your phone is unlocked and ready to go on our network. It’s quick and easy to check your phone’s compatibility here.
    • For customers with phones locked to the carrier (AT&T, Claro, Liberty (Puerto Rico), Spectrum & Xfinity) you will have to pay off your phone, request unlock from your previous carrier, and wait for your unlock request to be granted (typically takes 1-3 days) prior to bringing (porting) your number over. Bringing (porting) your number to T-Mobile prior to unlocking your phone will result in loss of access to service on the T-Mobile network due to your current incompatible locked phone.
  • Capture a clear screenshot or image of your phone’s financing details including the previous carrier’s name & phone number, phone’s make & model, phone’s payment balance, phone financing start date (showing a minimum of 90 days with prior carrier or number of payments made).
  • Bring (port) your number over to T-Mobile only after you have confirmed your phone is unlocked.
    • Phone numbers previously reimbursed for Carrier Freedom or Keep & Switch and later ported to another carrier are eligible to submit for reimbursement again after two years has passed since your last approval and reimbursement via either Carrier Freedom or Keep or Switch.
  • Submit for reimbursement at www.switch2t-mobile.com within 30 days of activation.

Why is there a limited list of phones that qualify for me to bring to the T-Mobile network and have you cover the remaining balance at my previous carrier?

Cell phones have unique software and in some cases hardware for each wireless carrier’s network is different and not compatible with one another. We’ve already done the work to check that all phones listed as eligible work great when they’re brought to T-Mobile. We will continue to work with phone manufacturers to enable more devices to easily move between carrier networks and still deliver the awesome experience T-Mobile is known for.

Can I get protection on the phone I bring over to T-Mobile?

Yes! We offer a device Protection<360> plan just for customers that bring their own device from another carrier. Speak to one of us to find out more and how to enroll.
